A few things happened on the way to Tuesday…

So much happened in the pop culture arena on Monday that it borders on the ridiculous. After debating the number and order of items in this post, I decided to go with chronological. It was too difficult to decide between good news or bad news first…

A new trailer for the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games was released Monday morning. It looks amazing and has allayed many of my fears regarding the casting of the film. Other than still feeling that Chris Hemsworth is too old and being somewhat dismayed by Woody Harrelson’s hairpiece, I’m thrilled. What do you think?

My delight with the pop culture world was destined to be short-lived. Mere hours after seeing the aforementioned trailer, NBC announced its extremely disappointing mid-season line up. Not only does Whitney continue to appear, COMMUNITY IS NOWHERE IN SIGHT. *Sigh* Seriously, y’all. It’s enough to give a girl a case of the Mondays… How can they give up on a show that just produced this gem, my favorite half-hour of t.v. so far this year?

Finally, and I’m sure you knew this already, Pajiba.com is filled with so much pop culture goodness, it’s hard to pick a single post to share. I’m going with F*ck Me Gently With A Chainsaw: 10 Couples You Really Shouldn’t Root For. There’s lots of interesting (and mostly right) goodness there, though, so be sure and check it out if you haven’t already.

Allow me to introduce myself!

Howdy, y’all!

My screen name is katie71483. If you’re a regular reader of this website, you’ll know that I’m a regular commentator on The Pop Culture Curmudgeon’s posts. I love all things pop culture, obsess endlessly over television in general and Supernatural in particular, and write obituaries for one of the last medium-sized family-owned newspapers in the Deep South.

In my perfect t.v. world, Supernatural is on The CW 24/7, The O.C. is still on, with Cohen making his Cohen-y Cohenisms while fighting a battle with genetics (those eyebrows!), Community and Chuck are never in danger of cancellation, and Joss Whedon has his own network where his shows run in continuos rotation.

Also in my perfect t.v. world – and I’m probably writing heresy here – HBO’s True Blood has already been cancelled, along with Showtime’s Dexter. Honestly, both shows have overstayed their welcome.

True Blood is a real problem for me in that I could care less about Sookie and Bill who are ostensibly the main characters of the show. And, while I do love Eric, Pam and Baby Jessica, they aren’t enough to make it worth an hour of my time every week for 13 weeks. Oh, and will someone please tell the writers to stop torturing Tara? If I want to watch torture porn, I’ll watch something like Hostel, thank you very much.

As for Dexter, Michael C. Hall continues to turn a very fine performance as the serial killer with a mission, but I feel like I’ve been there, done that. It feels very recycled to me at this point.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months; I’ll be making regular posts about whatever catches my fancy. If you have any suggestions, please let me know – you can follow me on Twitter @katie71483. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Thursdays Will Be Super Stacked This Fall

Yet again, the networks, in their bizarre desire to dominate the lucrative Thursday night ad slots, have stacked all of their highest rated shows there.

In the 8:00 hour, I will have to choose to between Community, Flash Forward, and the Vampire Diaries. Yes, I have a DVR, but not in my living room, where I actually watch most of my TV. Vampire Diaries premieres first, so I’ll give that one a shot. Then, I’ll make my decisions about Flash Forward and Community. I really like Joel McHale, so I will definitely be recording Community for later viewing. Flash Forward looks intriguing, but I’ll have to see if before I know if it’s must-see TV. Survivor is not a factor.

The 9:00 hour is much easier for me. Supernatural live. The Office when SPN is a repeat. No worries.

And 10:00 is not an issue. I’ll be getting the dogs and then myself ready for bed.

How about you? Read the full story in Variety, then let me know what your Thursday nights look like.
