Is Slim-Fast Enough?

I enjoyed last night’s premiere of True Blood, especially Anna Paquin’s performance. She inhabited her character so fully, that I completely forgot how much the blond hair bugged me in the promos. Some of the dialogue was a little corny, especially the dust-up over the vampire being named Bill and when Sookie said “since they came out of the coffin two years ago.” Other than Jay from Summerland and Larry (of this is my brother Darryl fame), I didn’t really recognize too many people. Mr. Curmudgeon however, was convinced he recognized every supporting actor.

My favorite line was when the bartender, in cautioning Sookie about going off with a bloodsucker, asked if she would be happy giving up her favorite food forever and living solely on Slim-Fast.

I will be interested to see if they develop the political aspects more as the show progresses. I thought I was watching the X-Men movies, with the call for vampire equality. Like the X-Men movies, this plotline exists as an obvious gay allegory. I wonder if people who are against gay equality see these parallels and whether they are put off by them.
