What to Watch and When to Watch It

Michael Ausiello continues to be a great source of info on tv news. Here is his list of which shows will make more episodes to complete their seasons: http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Wga-Strike-Favorite/800032698

It looks like many of my faves will be back this spring (Supernatural, Reaper, The Office, 30 Rock), and others will definitely be back for the fall (Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money, Heroes). I’ll have to take some time to catch up on Moonlight–love Jason Dohring, but have been somewhat bored with the rest of the show. The cable series I like will also come back this spring (Battlestar Gallactica, Greek).

Speaking of Greek, I’m going to get recaps of the first part of S1 posted over the next few weeks, and then post recaps as the remaining eps of S1 run. Greek? you ask. Really? Yes, really. I enjoy this show (Clark Duke is awesome!), and I was disappointed to find that no one was doing recaps when the eps first aired over the summer.

There is more good news for SPN fans: Lost will be moving to 10pm Thursdays this spring, so it will no longer be opposite SPN.

Really the only bad news is that Friday Night Lights still doesn’t know its fate. I know I talk about this show a lot, but if you knew me last spring when Veronica Mars was on the chopping block, you would see that (a) this is just how I am and (b) the furor over FNL is nothing compared to VM.

There'll Be Dancing, Dancing in the Streets

It’s over!!!! The writers can get back to bringing us the wonderful scripted shows we love. I HATE reality tv so much, and I can’t wait for the new eps of even bad scripted shows.

I'm So Glad It's (Almost) Over

How happy am I that I can expect some new episodes of my favorite series this season? How happy am I that I can go back to watching eps I missed on the Internet? And hoe happy am I that the writers appear to have worked out a favorable deal for new media? Well, happy enough to post about it.

Ausiello has a great list of how many episodes we can expect of each of our favorite shows. Certainly, some of the news isn’t great–a lot of shows won’t be back until fall–but we’ll have more eps of Supernatural, The Office, My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock and Reaper, plus some others I don’t watch. I’m hoping for the final eps of Scrubs to run on NBC. Perhaps after you write to NBC asking them to keep Friday Night Lights on the air, you could also ask them to give Scrubs a real send off…

Bored

The holidays, aka the time when nothing is on tv and sitting around doing nothing wears so thin that I actually start cleaning, are finally over. So although most of the new content on tv will be so-called reality shows that I have no interest in watching, at least a couple of new scripted shows will be on this week.

Here’s what I’ll be watching.

Wednesday
8:00–Probably the end of the Fiesta Bowl. My mom is from Oklahoma, so as long as the Sooners aren’t playing the Ducks, I can root for them.

9:00–New episode of Gossip Girl. Ed Westwick’s band The Filthy Youth will have two of their songs featured in tonight’s eppy. Ed plays Chuck, resident bad boy who I haven’t decided whether to love or to loathe.

10:00–I will either watch DVRed shows in bed or Veronica Mars on DVD. For those of you who like cop shows (or lawyer shows), there is a new episode of Law and Order on tonight, and Elton from Clueless (Jeremy Sisto) has joined the cast. I guess his holding deal worked out pretty well for him after Kidnapped tanked last year.

Thursday
8:00–Possibly E! News and Chelsea Lately, possibly VM or Gilmore Girls on DVD

9:00–Supernatural. Yes, I know it isn’t a new episode, but I have been a bad SPN fan this year, and I’m having to play catch up. Remember the old NBC slogan? If you haven’t seen it, it’s new to you. Sin City is the episode title, in case any of you missed this one during it’s first run, too.

10:00–I might watch the repeat of the tornado episode of Desperate Housewives

Friday
9:00–A new episode of Friday Night Lights.

10:00–Possibly an episode of Moonlight. The show is kind of fun, and it’s the only way to get my bad boy Logan fix without pulling out S1 of VM. S3 Logan was way too angsty for my taste.

Saturday
Does anyone watch anything on Saturday? I certainly don’t.

Sunday
9:00–Desperate Housewives. I don’t really believe they would kill off Matt from Melrose Place, but I kind of have to find out.

10:00–Cashmere Mafia. Sigh, I know.

Monday
8:00–Everybody Hates Chris. I used to record this show and watch it during the 8:30 time period, but this year I had too many shows during the 8:00 timeslot on Mondays. (I typically watch How I Met Your Mother, then watch my DVRed Chuck on Tuesday at 8–the new tv wasteland). Anyhoo, see my comment from Thursday at 9.

8:30–Possibly Aliens in America. Even though it’s a repeat, it’s a very cute show and a great use of Scott Patterson’s contract with The CW.

10:00–I’ve tried to care about watching October Road this year, but other than the weird not really a season premiere they played that one Thursday night, I just haven’t caught up. I might watch, I might not.

Tuesday
8:00 and 9:00–One Tree Hill (ducks and dodges the snide comments). I can’t help but watch teen angst shows. We’ll see if the post-college angst also entertains even mildly. If not, I’ll be begging for Reaper repeats.

So, now you know what I’ll be doing for the next week. How about you?

My Christmas Wish

I want the writer’s strike to be resolved in time for my favorite shows to finish their seasons satisfactorily with

  • equitable pay for online use of writer’s work
  • union representation for all writers of “reality” television shows who wish to join
  • fair pay for DVD sales
  • a deal that will translate into the director’s and actor’s guild contracts so that we won’t have to deal with more strikes

Find out more about the writer’s guild, the strike and the demands at unitedhollywood.com.

Merry Christmas!
