Supernatural Link Roundup, October 28

As I have been watching this seasons of Supernatural and catching some season 6 episodes on TNT, I have decided that I am glad it didn’t end after season 5. I liked the concept of it at the time, but seriously, if it had ended with Sam locked in the cage with Lucifer and Michael for eternity, I don’t know if I would have been happy. I may not like every episode, but I like that the Winchester brothers are going on and stopping monsters.

Last Week’s Episode

Supernatural Episode Shut Up, Dr. Phil: TV Guide’s reviewer loves the ongoing Bon Jovi references. I can’t help but wonder why no one knows the names of such prominent band members.

Supernatural Review: It’s a Buffy Reunion: I’m going to admit something that is Internet fan girl blasphemy: I could give or take Buffy. I liked the movie, but I never got into the show. UPN was so not on my radar. I was working full time and going to college, and I just didn’t have the time or energy to even know when anything on UPN or the WB came on. Seriously, I have never seen an episode of Dawson’s Creek. So, although I like Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters from other roles they have been in, but I didn’t have the fan girl squee of their big reunion.

Supernatural Episode 7-5 Review: Shut up, Dr. Phil: More kudos for the funny and concern over the Amy situation.

In hindsight, I would have been thrilled if Supernatural had ended with season 5 because I firmly believe Kripke’s original vision was for *both* brothers, as Lucifer and Michael, to go into the pit, thus completing the cycle.
I believe it was only after season 6 became a reality that this final scenario was changed, and now the show appears to me to be floundering along with no direction.

I don’t wish the show away, but I did mindwipe SS and all of S6. S7 has been mediocre, but entertaining.

What I really wish is that they would get a different showrunner. The show has veered off of everything that it used to be about. It appears that this showrunner is into personal, touchy feely girly crap and has no clue about the gritty, dark drama of two working class, edge of society guys traveling the backroads of America. And I don’t believe she has the capability of reclaiming the tone of the show or the characterizations of the two leads.

There are serious problems with the execution of a coherent story. For example, Sam’s mental problems miraculously cured, and with tonight’s episode over with, it appears that Dean’s alcoholism has also been miraculously cured. And when was the last time anybody heard Dean say SOB. I believe that it was once in the premiere. The writers cuss more at cons than Dean does in the show anymore.

I’m always grateful to have JA in my living room once a week, but that doesn’t mean that SG or the writers are doing a good job of delivering a show of quality.

Yes wish the show had ended with five seasons, I also wish they they had chosen a better actress for Ruby on S4 and and handled the apocalypse with more menace on S5

Yeah, the apocalypse was extremely underwhelming.
