By chance, I caught a funny rerun of The Larry Sanders Show where Larry hooks up randomly with Hank’s assistant Debby before this Letterman thing blew up. Arthur makes a bet with Larry that it will cause nothing but drama within the office dynamics, and it does just that as jealousies pop up and secret relationships with others are revealed. Now rumors are coming out that Dave not only slept with this assistant, but a few others throughout the years.

I’m not one to judge if he officially “cheated” on his wife with these assistants. Dave has seemingly had an unconventional relationship with the mother of his son throughout their courtship (didn’t marry her until 5 years after their son was born, etc) and from the news/gossip about his hookups with assistants is that they happened years ago. The thing about all of this is that is just proves that you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure without it blowing up in your face later.

The only thing that stinks is how the girl in question seemed to maybe benefit from her relationship with her constant tv appearances and such. But it’s Dave show and he can do whatever he wants really unless the fans suddenly turn on him.

  • Should Genre Shows Get Their Own Emmy Category?
I’m going to say no (don’t kill me). As frustrating it was to see Buffy and BSG (and others) continually snubbed for the big awards, it kind of made my love for them deepen. Sci-fi/horror shows barely ever get respect from the Emmys (or Oscars) and probably never will. The “prestigiuos” award shows got that way by being snooty about passing over the popcorn/blockbuster flicks or the riveting genre tv shows and only celebrating the sometimes overrated shows/movies that always win. What makes these award shows fun is their ability to frustrate us fans that get mad when they pass over True Blood or Chuck, yet cheer on when Mad Men wins or Neil Patrick Harris is lucky to get a nomination.

He’s a tool, but I kind of agreed that Beyonce should have won.

    I like it.
  • Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist: The Adventures in Babysitting for a New Generation
I recently saw N&N too and noticed the bustop similarities between that and Babysitting. I still catch Babysitting every now and then on USA or wherever its airing and think it still holds up well. Gotta go with Ferris Bueller as my all time fave teen flick though. If you want to see a sometimes enjoyable recent Ferris clone, watch Charlie Bartlett.

    Jennifer Roland Reply:

It makes me wonder if the Larry Sanders writers were prescient, if they were familiar with Dave’s charms, or if this sort of thing happens on pretty much every show. (Please don’t make me picture Jay Leno doing it with staffers, though!)
