Need Reading Challenge Help

I was reviewing my progress on the 666 Reading Challenge over  the weekend, and I need some book recommendations to help me flesh out some of the categories.

I’m kicking butt on vampires, werewolves/shapeshifters, and demons. I need recommendations for:

  • Ghosts/Poltergeists,
  • Witches/Warlocks,
  • Horror Creatures/Monsters,
  • Paranormal Creatures/Events, and
  • Killers/Stalkers.

Check back this Friday for a review of The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb. It will go under Ghosts/Poltergeists, for sure.

Be the first to like.

sorry, can’t help you. I’m not a reader of any of those genres.

I’m not sure why, but I also don’t get into YA. I think its because I like things to get a little down and dirty.

Do they have to be romance related? If not, I’d try the Dean Koontz and Steven King shelves at the library/bookstore. A lot of their books apply to multiple categories. BTW, they are wildly uneven as writers. Some of their books are brilliant and others feel like they’ve been phoned in. If you like, I”d be glad to give you some recs.

LOL. Sometimes even the grown-up books make me yell, “Oh my god. Would you two just do it already!”

Well, look at you, reminding me that other genres exist. I used to be rabid King and Koontz readers, but that kind of fell away when I went to college. I’d love some specific recs of recent books that are worth my time. I loved IT, The Stand, and many of the short stories by King. I liked Watchers and The Mask by Koontz.

Dean Koontz: I really liked From the Corner of His Eye and One Door Away From Heaven and an older title, Lightening. (Watchers is probably my fave, though!)
Steven King: You might try the Green Mile serials. His wife, Tabitha, is also a fantastic author, although not nearly as prolific.
In the romance genre, I was packing some of my books in boxes and came across three titles you might try by Linda Howard. Now You See Her (ghost), Mr Perfect (serial killer – and hilarious), and Son of the Morning (time travel/paranormal events).
