Tivo Really Is Big Brother

During the past few months, you may have noticed my rantings about how the random sampling system Nielsen Media uses to gauge TV viewership is wrong, evil, and antiquated.

Turns out, Tivo and I are on the same page. Tivo announced today that they will begin providing local viewership ratings this summer. This is one step toward a ratings system that counts actual viewers, how many times they repeat an episode, and whether they watch the commercials.

    Hey, if they have to collect a little data that keeps my favorite shows on the air, I’m all for it. I want all viewers to be counted.
