Twilight DVD

Well, I was one of 3 million people who went out and bought the DVD of Twilight on Saturday. That puts it in the top 5 for first-day DVD sales of the last two years (this is so specific that its as if I’m giving a sports statistic), with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Dark Night, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers.

I enjoyed it, more than the book, in fact. The teen angst in a visual medium is boiled into a few longing looks, rather than page after page of inanity. The sparkling was a bit much, although they did a better job of it than I thought they would. I still think Robert Pattinson is too British to be Edward, but he did a fine job as an actor. I am a fan of Kristen Stewart, and she did not disappoint. The vampires were somewhat odd, as no one except R.Patts appeared to have their own haircolor. Kellan Lutz’ Eddie Munster dye job was particularly disturbing. The highlight for me was Billy Burke’s Charlie Swan. He was pitch perfect as the awkward but protective father.

What did you think?

Better than the book? I don’t think so. The movie was okay, but the book was way better.

If it was better than the book, well, I’m glad I didn’t read the book!

Gina, I stand by my assessment. I enjoyed the movie more than the book, which is a rarity for me.

Rob, You always come through for me. I need you to do something I don’t expect, though. Zig when I think you’ll zag.

I enjoyed the movie immensely several times in theaters (seven, to be exact!) and we pre-ordered the 3-disc version.. but i did like the book much better..

i had high hopes for her, but kristen stewart actually disappointed me.. all her head shaking/nodding, blinking, and stuttering drove me insane.. i think everybody else did a great job.. especially cam gigandet as james – he does such a good job of being bad! makes me sad that he won’t be in the next one!!

the vamp speed left a lot to be desired.. it just looked like they were going in slow-mo.. the people on the tv show heroes do a better job with super-human speed..

i do agree with your assessment of the cullen’s hair.. esme and edward had the best hair.. i didn’t notice anything wrong with emmet’s hair, but carlisle’s hair bothered me and i thought alice’s wig was atrocious – sadly it looks like that won’t get an upgrade in this next movie either..

i’m excited about new moon and i really think with the bigger budget and new director it will be even better!!

Kimber, I’m just so used to seeing Kellan Lutz with blonde surfer hair. The dark hair and widow’s peak are so disturbing.

I am really excited for Eclipse. The director of that one should bring a very different sensibility.

I’m looking forward to seeing Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett.

kellan lutz as a blonde?? i must see this! (i thought he was so hot with the dark hair.. admittedly, blondes just don’t do it for me.. usually.. although jasper and james.. *yum*)

i hope weitz does a good job with new moon but i’m thinking with the bigger budget it will be an upgrade no matter what.. and i’m keeping my fingers crossed that they take on bayona for eclipse!!! that would totally rock!

as for joan jett.. i hope she pulls it off.. i’m honestly not that impressed with her.. i’ve seen speak, in the land of women, the messengers, jumper (doesnt really count), and she’s just kind of there, taking up space – she just doesn’t make me care about any of her characters.. is there a movie i should see that would redeem her??

I liked Kristin Stewart in In the Land of Women and The Messengers. And I think her slightly sullen behavior will fit well with Joan Jett’s stage persona. Plus I’m a huge fan of The Runaways, so I can’t wait for more people to experience their music.
